1. CHILD HEALTH PROGRAM in ESK villages

Why this Program:

Health problems interfere with students' ability to come to school, stay in school and make the most of their opportunity to learn. Highly prevalent nutrition and health conditions among school-age children are important determinants of educational outcomes.

For Example:

  1. Children with nutritional deficiencies such as Protein energy Malnutrition could affect schooling.
  2. Poor attention in the classroom could reflect a cognitive dysfunction such as is often observed among hyperactive children, or it could result from a lack of perseverance in an otherwise healthy child.
  3. School aptitudes among three- to six-year-old children are affected by iron-deficiency anemia. These effects continue into the school period if the nutritional deficit is not corrected.
  4. Vitamin-A deficiency is the major cause of partial or total blindness among pre- school-age children.

Objectives:

  • Improve The Health conditions of the children in the focus village
  • Increase awareness about healthy nutrition practices among the children
  • Provide Promotive, Preventive and curative services to the people and motivate them to increase the use of these services
  • Early diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of defects

2. Awareness on Reducing under Nutrition from Pregnancy through age Two –1000 Days approach
    Supported By UNICEF

Why 1000 days very important?

Maternal and child nutrition during the 1,000 days of pregnancy through age two shapes a child’s future. With adequate nourishment in the earliest years of life, children have an opportunity to grow to reach their full potential. There is a critical window of opportunity between pregnancy and age two during which nutrition can have a measureable lasting impact on growth, brain development, incidence of disabilities and susceptibility to disease or infection. The full long-term effects reach beyond health—with poor early nutrition leading to limited educational achievement and decreased lifelong economic opportunity

Therefore the 1,000 days comprising the prenatal period and the first two years of life are a critical window of opportunity to prevent under nutrition and its consequences and break the inter-generational cycle of under nutrition in India; once these 1,000 are gone, the window of opportunity closes for life.

This project is being implemented in Krishnagiri district.
