Program Overview

Eureka Scholarship Program was launched in June 2006, and 334 children studying between 6th standard and under graduation were sponsored. AID India makes a commitment to the scholars until they complete their under graduate education, as long as they get passable grades. Today we support 400 students from five districts.

Besides financial support, we also conduct workshops every month. Topics in the workshops range from learning techniques, goal setting, study skills, career counseling, personal hygiene, and personality development through the medium of arts and theatre.

Field trips offer these children a great opportunity to see life outside of their villages, as few have ever left their local areas. In a recent field trip, a child from a village in Thiruvannamalai district was speechless by a room that could go up and come down (an elevator).

Our block volunteers meet with the parent and school teachers regularly, and this motivates, the children to perform well and parents to keep their children in school. We also try to link every child with a sponsor who acts as a role model.

Beyond Scholarship

Besides meeting the financial requirements through scholarships, we also conduct workshops every year. Topics in the workshops range from learning techniques, goal setting, study skills, career counseling, personal hygiene, and personality development through the medium of arts and theatre.

Recipients of the Eureka Scholarship are encouraged to give back to the community. Students run village libraries, conduct workshops for others and often act as ambassadors of AID INDIA endeavors.

Individual Sponsorship

If you would like to sponsor a child’s education, send a cheque for Rs.5000/- to AID INDIA. Our team will update you regularly on the student’s academic and extra curricular performance.

Sponsoring

Eureka mentorship Program was launched in June 2007, and now we have 52 sponsors. The sponsoring program aims to foster a sponsor-sponsoree relationship between the volunteers and the students so that the students can interact with their sponsors on a variety of areas - be it academics, personal difficulties, or even about life beyond their home, studies & schools.

Sponsors are expected to keep in touch through snail mails and phone calls. We also arrange for sponsors to visit the children or vice versa. We try to match the interests of the child with sponsor’s interests or talents, so that the child’s special interests or talents are fostered.

Selection Process

• Identify bright children from poor socio-economic backgrounds
• Assess each child's needs by house and school visits
• Selection based on gender (girls are given importance because often due to economics and cultural bias, daughters do not get same opportunities as sons) and performance in extra curricular activities

CSS Foundation supports 351 children through the Eureka Scholarship Program. Our other sponsors are Vembu, Infosys, Smile Foundation and many other individual volunteers.
