Zonal Exhibition programs for Science & Secondary Mathematics
The Chennai team organized two zonal exhibitions recently for the science and secondary maths programs. While the science exhibitions have been going on in many districts, the maths exhibition was a new experience for secondary maths as well as the Chennai team.
Ms.Usha Kakarla, Additional Commissioner, Chennai Corporation made a visit to the Triplicane exhibition on 26th March 2008. She visited each and every single stall. She tried many of the puzzles and was stumped by quite a few ones! One of the girls asked the visitor to find 4 weights that can be used to measure any weight from 1 to 15 kg. The visitor thought she had the answer when she said 1, 2, 5 and 7. The girl knew the correct answer as 1, 2, 4 and 8 - so she said the visitor’s answer was wrong. When asked why, the girl thought for a moment, then said "you can measure 1, 2 and 3kg but not 4kg. That’s why!” This really impressed everyone who attended the exhibition.
Another boy, Salim, from CMS Krishnampet wowed everyone with his enthusiastic explanations. At his science stall, he did a couple of experiments and then wanted to show a grinder model which was not turning on. He later found out where she was, dragged her to his room, and showed that it was working now! He also showed up in the maths section again! |
