September 5, 2008:
Field update from Sanjay and Rukmini, Pratham
Pratham Bihar team is on the field traveling to all the affected districts and visiting camps and assessing the impact on children. Sanjay Kumar and Neeraj Trivedi from Pratham Bihar met the Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Principal Secretary, Home affairs, Government of Bihar to understand current situation and formulate plans.
Over the last few days, we have also been continuously taking stock of the flood situation in the affected districts through our district and block leaders there. We are continually engaged in tracking our cluster level volunteers, not all of whom have still been tracked. Pratham block teams and district teams who are in the flood affected districts are already helping out wherever possible.
Our people have also met officials from Red Cross, Ramakrishna Mission to understand the relief work done by them. A couple of our members also visited the Patna Railway Station and the Rajendra Nagar Railway Terminal to assess the situation there.
A senior team has left today for the flood affected districts. The team will be back by Sunday 7th September. We will be in a position to formulate more detailed plans then. We will work in an ongoing basis for the next six to eight months with Bihar government and UNICEF as part of our ongoing partnership to ensure that we help children in these districts. We will need your help and support for the long term.
We will be sending you a more concrete immediate plan of action and a longer run plan as soon as our teams return from the flood affected districts.
Pratham office in Patna will work as a nodal point for facilitating work on flood relief. |
