Eureka Child Foundation's mission is to "ensure quality education for every child". We envision an India in which every child in every village gets the best education, achieves his/her full potential, and is ready to face the world with confidence.
We follow a three-pronged strategy to ensure quality education:
- Direct action on a large-scale to bring about measurable improvements in learning outcomes.
- Partnership with existing institutions – NGOs, the Government and private schools –
using our methodology and resources.
- Advocacy with community, NGOs and the Government to bring about systemic changes.
We believe that participation from the community is critical for bringing about significant change in education. Our approach, therefore, involves organizing, educating and empowering the poor around the problems of education. This includes deepening their understanding of issues and solutions.
For example, in Tamil Nadu, while 99.5% children in the age-group 6-10 go to school, more than 50% cannot read a simple story or subtract 2-digit numbers. We work with the community and parents to enable an understanding of these problems using simple tools, keeping in mind that the parents themselves may not have these skills.
Sensitizing the community to the problems in quality is only the first step. Poor parents must believe that changing this situation is possible, and that their children can attain and even surpass the learning levels of children from more affluent families.
Our goal over the next five years is to bring about such a change in learning outcomes on a scale of 1000 of the most marginalized villages. We propose to bring about this improvement through innovative after-school centers run by local teachers from the community, and trained by us.
